Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has indicated that Tottenham have pulled out of the race for Porto striker Mehdi Taremi.
The topic of who replaces Harry Kane has dominated the headlines from a Tottenham perspective over the last few days, with the prolific Taremi being one of the names being mooted as a potential target.
It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio last week that Tottenham were battling Inter Milan for the Iranian striker, who finished last season with an astonishing tally of 31 goals and 14 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
However, on Sunday, CaughtOffside suggested that Taremi’s name has been put on the ‘back burner’ by Spurs, with the North London club said to be exploring other options to replace Kane.
Tottenham have moved on from Mehdi Taremi
Tavolieri has now gone one step further and that the Porto star is ‘not an option anymore’ for the Premier League outfit.
Interestingly, the journalist adds that Inter have also pulled out from the race for Taremi’s signature as the Serie A side do not want to pay €30m (£25.8m) for a player who will miss a month and a half of the campaign due to the AFC Asian Cup.
#InterMilan give up for Mehdi Taremi !
Italian officials didn’t want to match the 30M€ #FCPorto expectations & will go for other options. Inter told also player’s side the reason is that the Iranian Striker will be with his national team during one month & a half and… pic.twitter.com/fST0NfyDIS— Sacha Tavolieri (@sachatavolieri) August 13, 2023

It was always clear that Taremi would be an odd fit for a Postecoglou side, given his age and his style of play. It now appears fairly evident that Tottenham are prioritising a move for Gent’s Gift Orban, with a bid for the Nigerian looking likely over the coming days.
