Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur do not want to pay the €30m (£25.7m) fee that Gent are demanding for Gift Orban.
Orban has gone from a complete unknown to one of the hottest prospects in European football in a matter of six months since joining Gent back in January.
The 21-year-old took Belgian football by storm, scoring 20 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions during the second half of last season and he has started the new campaign in a similar vein of form, netting five goals in four matches so far.
Multiple outlets over the last few days have indicated that Orban ranks high on Spurs‘ wishlist as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, with the North London club expected to make a concrete move for the striker soon (Evening Standard).
Tottenham want a better price on Gift Orban
However, Galetti has now revealed that Tottenham do not consider the £25.7m demanded by Gent to be a fair price for the Nigerian, and are trying to negotiate down the fee.
The journalist told GiveMeSport about Spurs’ pursuit of Orban: “They would like to negotiate a fair price with Gent to bring him to the Premier League. Among the European top clubs, Inter Milan have also shown interest in him despite, as we told before, their main target remains as Folarin Balogun.
“The price tag for Gift Orban is already set by the Belgian team and that is around €30m. As told, Tottenham are trying to negotiate this amount and let’s see and wait for the development, for sure, in the next few days.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is to be expected that Gent would demand a premium for Orban, given the way he has started the new season and the fact that Spurs are now sitting on a huge pile of cash following Kane’s switch to Bayern. I fully expect this deal to be done within a matter of days.
