Amidst reports of Tottenham’s interest in Elye Wahi, the striker’s agent, Crescenzo Cecere, has admitted that it is going to be difficult to lure his client away from Montpellier this summer.
Over the last few days, there has been a lot written about who Tottenham will sign to replace Harry Kane, with plenty of outlets backing the North London club to make a move for Gent’s Gift Orban (CaughtOffside).
Another promising young striker who continues to be heavily linked with a move to Spurs is Wahi, with Foot Mercato reporting over the weekend that the Lilywhites are now ‘very hot on the file’ of the 20-year-old and could decide to go ‘concretely on the offensive’ for the player.
It emerged a couple of days ago that Tottenham could face competition from their London rivals, West Ham, for the French Under-21 international’s signature (TEAMtalk).
Agent of Elye Wahi says a deal will be complicated
However, Wahi’s agent, Cecere has now insisted that it is going to take a sizeable transfer fee to secure the youngster’s signature this summer.
He told L’Interista (as relayed by Sempre Inter): “It is unlikely that Montpellier will let him leave for a reasonable fee. The race (to sign) him is very complicated.
“There’s no doubt that Wahi is too good of a player to stay at his current club. But it’s very tough to get him. Montpellier aren’t going to let him go for a reasonable fee. Negotiating with them won’t be easy.”
Spurs Web Opinion
As things stand, it seems like Gift Orban is at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist but if a move for the Gent star does not materialise, I expect the North London club to prioritise a move of Wahi as he seems to be of the right age profile and appears to have the attributes to thrive in Posteocglou’s system.
