Chris Waddle has admitted that he was really disappointed with Richarlison’s first-half showing against Manchester United.
There were a lot of encouraging individual performances for Tottenham from back to front as they blew United away, owing to a dominant second-half performance in their first home game of the season.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr were imperious in the middle of the park while James Maddison was at his creative best after the interval.
Tottenham’s backline also coped impressively with United’s threat on the counter-attack but one man who did not have the best of outings was Richarlison, who endured another frustrating afternoon.
The 26-year-old looked extremely displeased after being replaced by Ivan Perisic on 70 minutes but he has since clarified that he was disappointed with his own performance rather than about Ange Postecoglou’s decision to substitute him (ESPN Brazil).
Richarlison needs to improve up front for Spurs
Waddle admitted that he expected a lot more from the former Everton man in the first period.
The Tottenham legend told BBC Sport at half-time: “Rashford started a bit poorly in the first 10 minutes but he is really coming into the game now.
“On the other end of the pitch, the white shirt leading the line for Tottenham hasn’t done much. Really disappointed with Richarlison so far.”

Richarlison is going to attract plenty of criticism each game that he fails to find the back of the net as the comparisons with Kane are inevitable. However, that would be unfair on the Brazilian as he is clearly not on Kane’s level and offers different things to the England captain.
The 26-year-old is also a patchy goalscorer, who tends to get all of his goals in purple patches rather than consistently throughout the season. The Brazilian would be hoping that the floodgates open for him as soon as he gets one or two.
