James Maddison has set the record straight by insisting that he has never supported Arsenal in his life.
Even though Maddison has played just two games in a Tottenham shirt, he already feels like someone who was born to play for the Lilywhites.
The 26-year-old possesses the kind of flair that Spurs fans love to see from attacking players and he has been handed leadership responsibilities by Ange Postecoglou, who has named him as one of the two vice-captains alongside Cristian Romero.
There were some rumours doing the rounds on social media that Maddison supported Arsenal while growing up, perhaps because of a tweet he posted as a teenager suggesting that Jack Wilshere was better than Gareth Bale (Sportskeeda).
James Maddison denies vicious Arsenal rumours
However, the former Leicester City star has now endeared himself to the Tottenham faithful even further by dismissing those suggestions, confirming on social media that he never supported the other lot from North London at any point in his life.
Maddison took to Instagram following the win over Manchester United to post: “Come on you Effinnn Spurs”, and someone in the comments section asked him about his Arsenal supporting past, the midfielder responded: “I’ve never in my life been a Gooner, just for the record.”

Spurs Web Opinion
Arsenal fans love to create false rumours about different players supporting them. Some of them, still to this day, mistakenly claim that Kane supported Arsenal, ignoring the fact he only celebrated during their trophy parade as he was in their academy until he was eleven.
It is good that Maddison has cleared this up quite early on as Gooners would have continued claiming him as their own for years to come.
