Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Tottenham continue to be in contract with Lille over Jonathan David but the North London club are yet to make a concrete move for the striker.

David first made a name for himself when he burst onto the scene at Gent as a teenager and the striker has been progressing consistently since he made his switch to Ligue 1 back in 2020.

The 23-year-old finished last season with 30 goal contributions (26 goals and four assists) in 40 appearances across all competitions and looks ready to make the step up to a bigger club.

It has been widely reported over recent days that the Canadian international is one of the options at the top of Tottenham’s radar alongside Gift Orban, although he is considered a more expensive option than the Gent star (Fabrizio Romano – ThatsFootballTV).

Jonathan David likes idea of Premier League move

Galetti has now revealed that the Belgian club have made it clear to Spurs that they would have to pay £55m for David, who is said to be keen on making a move to the Premier League this summer.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “As we know for a suitable offer, the Canadian player could leave Lille and he’s keen to make a big leap to a top club and a big leap to the Premier League.

“Tottenham are well-informed about him. The price tag set by the French club is around £55 million. Spurs have already approached Lille asking about the conditions of the deal and exploring for sure the cost, but as of today no official move has been made.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While David is a talented striker, who has a high ceiling, signing him would be a bit of a gamble as there is no guarantee that he would be able to adapt to the Premier League. I suspect Spurs would rather take a £25m gamble on Orban rather than a £55m gamble on the Canadian.
