Football Insider claim that while Romelu Lukaku is an option for Tottenham, the North London club are only likely to make a move for the Chelsea star if they miss out on their ‘top-priority targets’.
It is just two years ago that Chelsea paid £97.5m to sign Lukaku from Inter Milan following the striker’s prolific season at the San Siro under Antonio Conte.
However, the Belgian’s stock has nosedived considerably since then, so much so that the Blues are now seemingly struggling to offload the striker.
It was reported by TuttoMercatoWeb on Monday that Spurs could turn their attention towards Lukaku during the final few days of the transfer window.
The outlet suggested that the Lilywhites could look to sign the 30-year-old on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
Spurs unlikely to move for Romelu Lukaku
Football Insider have now stated that while Lukaku is an option for Tottenham, the centre-forward is not ‘towards the top’ of the club’s shortlist to replace Harry Kane.
It is explained that while the door could open for Spurs to sign the Chelsea star, they would only consider it if they fail with moves for all of their priority striker targets.
The publication adds that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy are now ‘desperate to find a solution’ to Lukaku’s situation before the transfer deadline, with the striker not taking part in first-team activities at the club’s Cobham training base.
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect that the rumours linking Lukaku with a move to Spurs are just lazy speculation based on the fact that Tottenham need a centre-forward and the 30-year-old is on the market.
I doubt if there if the North London club have made any concrete steps towards signing the Belgian as he is not a particularly good fit for Postecoglou’s style of play.
