According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a right-winger rather than a ‘traditional’ striker, and have three options on their radar as the transfer window nears its conclusion.

Naturally, losing a player like Harry Kane is going to leave a gaping hole in any forward line. Since the talismanic striker left Spurs to join Bayern Munich, the North Londoners have been linked with a whole host of different wingers and strikers.

Out-and-out forwards like Gift Orban (Ben Jacobs on The Last Word on Spurs), Elye Wahi (CaughtOffside), and Mehdi Taremi (Gianluca Di Marzio) have all been mooted as possible acquisitions for Tottenham.

In terms of wider players, Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs (The Independent), but there are other options on the table such as Wilfried Gnonto (LondonWorld) and Porto attacker, Pepe (A Bola).

What kind of player do Spurs want?

In his latest piece for Sky Sports Transfer Centre (27/08/23 13:40), Lyall Thomas revealed Tottenham are leaning towards signing a winger, specifically on the right-hand side of the pitch, rather than an orthodox striker.

Apparently, Spurs are looking to make a “late move” before the transfer window closes, and will be targeting a “right-winger” to bolster their attack. It is suggested Brennan Johnson is “high among their targets,” and that Spurs want a player with a similar profile to the young Welshman.

The report adds that the Lilywhites have “three options” on the cards, but it is not stated which other players are among those options at this stage.

Spurs Web Opinion

If this is true, it would seem Ange Postecoglou is putting full faith in Richarlison to lead his line. You would think that this could mean Dane Scarlett and Alejo Veliz might get some minutes this year, too, as they will be the main back-up options to Richarlison if we don’t sign another striker.
