Son Heung-min has said that with Harry Kane now having left Tottenham, it is time for some of the other players to step up and deliver in the final third.

When Tottenham’s record goalscorer departed for Bayern Munich in the summer, many were understandably questioning where the goals were going to come from for the Lilywhites this season.

In fact, some pundits suggested that Spurs will struggle to even finish in the top half this season after losing their talisman (Sky Sports).

However, Tottenham have had no trouble scoring goals so far this season, with Ange Postecoglou’s men having found the back of the net 11 times in their first four Premier League games of the season.

Son was tasked with leading the line at Turf Moor on Saturday and the South Korean served the timely reminder of the threat he possesses, netting a hat-trick to help Spurs emerge 5-2 winners.

Tottenham need to move on from Harry Kane

The forward admitted after the game that it is time for Spurs to move on from Kane and insisted that the team’s attacking players now have a collective responsibility to step up in the 30-year-old’s absence.

When asked about losing Kane’s goals, Son said following Tottenham’s win at Burnley (via The Mirror): “Harry is a very important player, don’t get me wrong. He’s one of the best players in the world and one of the best players probably I would say to work with.

“If you have Harry Kane in your team, you have 20 to 30 goals in your pocket safely. But this is part of football and if someone had to leave, you have to respect that.

“Harry did a massive, massive thing at Spurs so I think in the end, the club and players, you respect each other and move forward.

“Especially now because we have no Harry Kane, so everyone has to step up, everyone has to take a big responsibility on the pitch to make and score goals.

“Everyone is good enough to step up, we have good players. Everyone has to take a big responsibility to score the goals and be hungry for the goals.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As is often the case in football when a team has a big-name superstar, the likes of Son, Kulusevski and Richarlison were playing within themselves last season and looking for Kane at every opportunity, expecting the striker to bail them out.

With the England captain now gone, the attacking players have to take more responsibility. We have seen in the past that Son has performed excellently when Kane has been out injured. So, the South Korean can certainly go a long way towards filling the void left by the 30-year-old’s departure.
