Kallum Cesay, who was released by Tottenham Hotspur this summer, is now on trial at Werder Bremen, according to Bild.

Cesay had come through the age group ranks at Tottenham and had impressed for the Under-18s and the Under-21s in North London.

Although the versatile defender, who primarily operates as a right-back, did not make a competitive senior appearance for the Lilywhites during his time in N17, he was named on the bench for two Europa Conference League games back in 2021 (OneFootball).

The 21-year-old, who has already been capped four times by Sierra Leone, was released by Tottenham in the summer and is still on the lookout for a new club.

Cesay training with Werder Bremen after Spurs exit

Bild have now revealed that the young defender could potentially land in the Bundesliga as he has been handed a trial with Bremen.

The publication reveals that the defender was spotted training with the German side during the international break, and they also spoke to the club’s head of first-team football, Clemens Fritz, who confirmed the same.

Fritz is quoted as saying about Cesay: “We have known him for a long time. He was offered to us and the international break is now a good time for it. Kallum is a young player who enjoyed a very good education at Tottenham. 

“The plan is initially for the player to train with us for the next few days, then we’ll see how it goes. A decision is not yet in sight. It can go either way.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was not too long ago that Cesay was looked at by many at Tottenham as a future first-team prospect, which is why I am quite surprised that no one has picked him up yet.

The 21-year-old might be a late bloomer and perhaps German football could prove the ideal environment for him to develop into a finished product.
