Richarlison is the only Tottenham star to be named in Gareth Crooks’ Team of the Week, with the former Spurs player lavishing praise on the Brazilian for his match-winning cameo.

Richarlison has endured an extremely difficult start to the season for both club and country, and he revealed last week he has also had some struggles in his personal life, which is why he is planning on seeking ‘psychological help’ (Globo Esporte).

Since the 25-year-old made that revelation, everyone at Spurs has gotten fully behind him, with Ange Postecolgou remarking on Friday that the forward will get all the help he needs (Football.London).

It is fair to say that Richarlison will now be feeling better about how things are going in his professional life as he proved to be Tottenham’s hero on Saturday.

The striker came off the bench to score a goal and set up Dejan Kulusevski’s match-winner as the home side turned the game around in dramatic fashion.

After the game, the former Everton man was mobbed by his teammates, with Son Heung-min even pushing him towards the front of the post-match celebrations so that he could bask in the appreciation of the Spurs fans (Football.London).

Richarlison makes PL Team of the Week

Crooks has now praised Richarlison’s unselfishness for picking out Kulusevski rather than going for goal himself.

The pundit wrote in his column for BBC Sport about the Tottenham star: “A goal and an assist from a player who has clearly been struggling with his form since he joined Spurs changed the game against Sheffield United.

“The movement by Richarlison for his headed equaliser was quite brilliant but it was his unselfishness and ability to pick out the pass for Dejan Kulusevski to score once inside the penalty area that won Tottenham the match.

“This is a player I have previously criticised. I have, in the past, found his antics rather juvenile.

“However, to have played in midweek for his country, returned on time to play for his club amid suggestions about the state of his mental health, come on as substitute and had such an impact on a match speaks volumes about the Brazilian’s strength and courage. Long may it continue.”

This is exactly the sort of boost in confidence that Richarlison needed to get him back on track. I would expect the 26-year-old to be a completely different player the next time he sets foot on the pitch.

Let us hope that the floodgates now open for him in front of goal as there has never really been a doubt about his talent.
