Kieran Gibbs has backed his former side Arsenal to come out on top in this weekend’s North London derby, and has predicted a 3-1 win for the Gunners over Tottenham Hotspur.

Every Tottenham and Arsenal fan will have these fixtures marked on their calendar each year as arguably the biggest game of the season. Derby day is always an exciting contest, but this early season clash carries a little extra importance.

Both sides have started the season strong and remain unbeaten after the first five league games of the campaign. For either team to come out on top on Sunday, will be a very interesting signal as to how the seasons might play out for Ange Postecoglou and Mikel Arteta.

While Arsenal are looking to build on last season’s second-placed finish and establish themselves as genuine title contenders, the Lilywhites are in a period of great transition with their new manager.

Kieran Gibbs predicts an Arsenal win in the NLD

Speaking to ESPN ahead of the weekend’s big game, Gibbs revealed how confident he is that his old club can get the job done against their fierce rivals.

He said: “To be honest, how I was feeling about Spurs with Harry Kane leaving, I was worried the North London Derby was going to lose its excitement because I just didn’t fancy Spurs. But I’m actually happy they’ve started well so it’s nicely poised for the weekend but I feel that Arsenal are going to come up trumps.

“I reckon Tottenham are going to be brought down a few pegs this weekend. At the Emirates with the way it’s rocking at the moment, I’m going to go 3-1 Arsenal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Things never really go well for the away side in the North London derby, and Arsenal are very hard to beat at their place. I’m not getting my hopes up for this one, but Ange Postecoglou has got the players full of confidence and he will be very keen to prove a point about where his team are at this weekend.
