Tottenham Hotspur are set to extend the contract of Heung-min Son for an extra season in order to avoid another summer of Harry Kane-like drama surrounding their star player.

Son’s current contract runs out at the end of next season, but The Telegraph report that Spurs have an option to extend that for one more year, which they intend to trigger. This would take the South Korean’s time in North London up to 2026.

Tottenham ran into trouble this summer when Harry Kane entered the final year of his deal, effectively forcing Daniel Levy to sell up or lose a valuable player on a free transfer.

Heung-min Son could be set for a 2026 Spurs stay

However, The Telegraph add that the option in Son’s contract has not been triggered yet, although both the club and player expect it to be eventually.

Tottenham may even wait until the end of the season as the club are relaxed about Son’s future and do not want to distract him while the team is playing so well.

This comes after 90 Mins reported recently that Tottenham are set to enter talks with Son about a new contract altogether, and it could be signed in the next few weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham are in that sweet spot at the moment where the team is playing well, the players are young, and things are heading in the right direction. That is when you start making sure your key stars are tied down to long contracts.
