According to The Daily Star, it has come to light in a new book written by Alex Fynn that Sir Alex Ferguson almost ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur before he moved to Manchester United.
Ferguson’s success is a huge reason why Man Utd are now widely seen as not just one of the biggest clubs in the world but also one of the most recognisable sporting brands across the globe.
The Scot spent 27 years in the dugout at Old Trafford, becoming one of English football’s greatest-ever managers. During his tenure, he won 38 major trophies, including 13 league titles and two Champions League trophies.

However, Fynn, a former director of Satchi & Satchi, has revealed in his new book about Spurs, titled ‘Still Dreaming‘ that Tottenham almost won the race for the legendary manager.
The author, who had access to all the leading members of the Tottenham hierarchy at the time, reveals that Ferguson had agreed to leave Aberdeen for White Hart Lane in 1984.
However, it is explained that his wife, Cathy, did not want to move to London and he thus changed his mind at the last moment, eventually joining Man Utd two years later.
The book states: “The directors, to a man, were enthusiastic endorsers of the choice (Ferguson). All aspects of the contract agreed. Unfortunately, Mrs Ferguson was not keen on a move to London and that was that.”

While Ferguson is undoubtedly one of the best managers of all time and arguably the greatest in Premier League history, there is no guarantee that he would have had similar success at Tottenham.
In fact, it is worth remembering that he almost lost his job at Man Utd a couple of years after taking over before going to achieve the success he did.
