Luka Vuskovic says he is honoured to join a club like Tottenham Hotspur and vowed to work hard to ensure that he is ready to play for the Premier League side’s first team when he eventually arrives in North London.

It has been an open secret for the last few weeks that Spurs had won the race for Vuskovic, who is considered by many to be one of the best young centre-backs in his age group around the world.

The Evening Standard revealed earlier this month that the Lilywhites are set to agree to a £12m deal with Hajduk Split and that the defender would remain with the Croatian club until 2025.

Spurs officially confirmed that news yesterday, revealing that the 16-year-old has signed a contract in N17 that runs until 2030.

The teenager has previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle (Daily Mail) while it was asserted two weeks ago by Calciomercato that Tottenham saw off competition from Man City, PSG and AC Milan to land the youngster.

Vuskovic has now admitted that there were plenty of big clubs who wanted to sign him and added that he was honoured at the desire that Spurs showed to win the race for his signature.

The centre-back told Hajduk’s official website (as relayed by Football.London): “First of all, I want to thank Hajduk for making this possible for me, the coaches who contributed to my development, the people from the academy, all the employees of the club.

“In the past months, I was aware of the interest of big clubs from abroad, and I tried to stay on the ground, train and prepare for new challenges.

“It is a great honour to see that a club like Tottenham has shown such a desire and put in so much effort to bring in a player of my age.

“This makes me proud, and it is certainly a motive for me to work even harder on my development and further progress in order to be as ready as possible for the moment when I will play for their first team.”

Vuskovic then took to Instagram to post the following message after completing the move to Spurs:

This move, allied with the signings of Alejo Veliz and Ashley Phillips in the summer, shows that Tottenham now have a clear long-term strategy in place.

Our best chance of closing the gap on the likes of Man City is to sign the best young talent in the world before they explode, and in Postecoglou, we now have a manager who is willing to give opportunities to youngsters.
