Tim Sherwood thinks we have seen enough in Tottenham’s performances in the first six league games of the season for Spurs fans to get carried away.

Ahead of the season, hardly anyone tipped Tottenham to finish in the top six, let alone compete for Champions League qualification, given that the club had lost their talisman, Harry Kane, and were embarking on a new project under Ange Postecoglou.

However, the expectations surrounding the Lilywhites have now changed, as they are now unbeaten in six matches, winning four of them.

The North London Derby was undoubtedly their biggest test of the season so far, and Postecoglou’s men passed it in flying colours.

They had more possession than the home side and stuck to their game plan of playing out from the back, emerging with a deserved 2-2 draw.

Tim Sherwood says it is time to get excited at Spurs

While Sherwood admitted that Tottenham have had a few false dawns over the last couple of years, he insisted that the team’s style of play is something that should give the supporters plenty of optimism.

The former Spurs interim head coach told Optus Sport: “The one thing I always say to Tottenham fans is don’t get carried away with results, because for the last two or three seasons they’ve started well also.

“What you can get carried away with is the style, because it’s not going to change. This manager wants to play this style, it’s what you want to watch so just enjoy it.

“They will take on anyone toe-to-toe, it doesn’t matter who they play, they have their own identity and they’ll go for it.”

While Spurs fans can certainly be optimistic about what we can achieve this season, it would be unfair to burden Postecoglou and the side with big demands or expectations.

It is worth remembering that we are only at the start of a new project and there is no doubt that we will go through some difficult spells later in the campaign. It is important that we get behind the players and manager when that occurs.
