Former Tottenham Hotspur player, Andros Townsend is currently training with the club once again, after failing to find himself a new club this summer.
Andros Townsend came through the Tottenham academy and made 87 appearances for the Lilywhites over the years, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists (Transfermarkt).
Since leaving the club in 2016, Townsend has turned out for Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Everton. The 32-year-old was released by the Toffees this summer.
Townsend missed the last 18 months after suffering an ACL injury. He has spent that time doing punditry work, but was clearly very keen to get back to playing football this season.
Speaking to the BBC‘s Radio 5 Monday Night Club, Townsend recently revealed how close he was to signing for Premier League new boys Burnley. Unfortunately, that move collapsed at the very last minute when the Clarets managed to sign young talents Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni.
In that appearance with the BBC, Townsend also explained how he has been speaking to clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but still nothing has come to fruition for the former England international.
Andros Townsend is keeping fit with Spurs
That injury may well have set Townsend back but he’s not letting it keep him down. According to the Daily Mail, he is now back in North London and training with the Spurs youth team to maintain his fitness levels in the hopes of securing a contract elsewhere.
It is said Spurs have “opened the door” to Townsend to allow him to stay at his best in case a club comes calling. Apparently, Townsend is not involved with the first team at all, and there is “no indication” of Ange Postecoglou “considering” offering the player a contract.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s great that the club is doing this for Andros Townsend, and I really hope he lands on his feet and finds a new club soon. If he is fit again and feels he has something to offer, then he will surely get an opportunity somewhere this year.
