Scott Minto says Daniel Levy got lucky with his decision to hire Ange Postecoglou as some other managers did not want the Tottenham job in the summer.

At the end of last season, after Tottenham stumbled to a disappointing eighth-place finish, the atmosphere surrounding the club was as bad as it had been for a long time.

There seemed to be a massive disconnect between the club and the supporters, which led to protests and social media outcries.

Spurs desperately needed a figure who could unite everyone at the club and restore the kind of attacking football that was central to Tottenham’s identity.

Tottenham appear to have got just that, with Postecoglou managing to completely turn the mood around in a matter of months in N17.

The Australian has instantly got the Lilywhites playing front-foot, high-intensity, possession-based football, which is a joy to watch.

His straightforward responses and his tendency to give credit to the collective in press conferences have also been a fresh of breath air compared to his predecessors, whose messages to the media often tended to be self-serving.

Did Daniel Levy get lucky with Ange Postecoglou?

Minto believes that Levy got lucky by stumbling upon Postecoglou, who is a perfect fit for Spurs.

The former West Ham defender told talkSPORT: “What I would say is, Daniel Levy got lucky in my opinion. Because Ange Postecoglou was about fifth or sixth choice.

“There were lots of people who they were linked to, spoke to – Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Slot. Many others. But I just think Postecoglou, whether he stumbled upon it or not, is a perfect fit for Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is absolutely no evidence that Spurs wanted Enrique or even Nagelsmann. What was clear, however, is that Slot was the club’s first choice in the summer ahead of Postecoglou.

The Tottenham hierarchy certainly deserves credit for hiring the Australian, with large parts of the fan base not impressed with the decision at the time and many quite angered that we did not bring Pochettino back to the club.
