Gabby Agbonlahor thinks the fact that Tottenham have no European football this season will be a huge boost to them since they can prepare for one game a week while their rivals have to play every three days.

It feels like some in the media are slowly coming around to the idea that Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou might actually be the real deal this season.

Understandably, the consensus among pundits appears to be that Spurs lack the squad depth to be able to sustain a title challenge against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, who have more complete squads (talkSPORT).

However, the one advantage Tottenham do have is that they do not have to worry about too many mid-week games, with Pep Guardiola himself pointing to that as the reason why he expects the Lilywhites to remain in the hunt until the business end of the season (Football.London).

Are Spurs really in the Premier League title fight?

When asked about Guardiola’s statement, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “Fewer games is definitely an advantage. You get more rest when playing once a week. Look at Son and Maddison, they’ve had injury problems this season but they’re still playing.

“They’re playing Saturday but they probably don’t have to train all week. They can get their treatment, and their recovery and come back into the side again in the following weekend.

“Arsenal are having to play Saka and Martinelli twice a week, every week. It is huge for Tottenham, and can only be a good thing going forward for Spurs. The only negative is for the fringe players, who aren’t getting the consistent minutes.”

As things stand, Tottenham have no chance of pushing Man City all the way, given that we are potentially just one or two injuries (to Maddison, Son or our centre-backs) away from disaster.

However, if we can somehow sustain this form until January and strengthen our squad in key areas, we can then perhaps start to dream of the impossible.
