Roy Hodgson says it will not be too long before rumoured Tottenham target Eberechi Eze signs a new contract at Crystal Palace.

Eze has taken his game up another level since the start of last season, having managed to stay relatively injury-free, and unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old is thought to have emerged as a target for several of the big hitters.

This includes Spurs, with Fichajes claiming a couple of weeks ago that the North London club had their eye on both the midfielder and his Palace teammate Marc Guehi ahead of January as they look to boost their chances of competing for the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail reported a little over a month ago that Manchester City also had their eye on Eze, who was said to be valued at around £70m by the Eagles.

New contract for Eberechi Eze is getting closer

However, Hodgson’s latest update has come as a blow to both Spurs and City, with the Palace boss revealing that it is only a matter of time before a contract extension for the attacking midfielder is announced.

He said (via The Metro): “I believe the club are working very hard with Eberechi Eze and they are very confident it won’t be too long before they can announce him as well.

“These matters are taken care of by Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman, they keep me informed. But certainly, they are optimistic it won’t take too long to get Eze to commit his future as well.”

Eze was always going to be a difficult deal to pull off and Tottenham’s only hope was that the 25-year-old would force Palace’s hand by not signing a new contract. With this latest development, Spurs would have to likely give up any lingering hope they had of signing the England international.
