Thomas Frank is hopeful that rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney will stay at Brentford but admitted that it is impossible to be sure what will happen in January.
Over the last couple of months, multiple outlets have reported that Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all eyeing a move for Toney, who has allegedly expressed his intention to leave Brentford in January when his ban lapses (Daily Express).
However, Fichajes.net suggested two weeks ago that the likes of Spurs and Arsenal might hesitate to pay the €70m (£61m) price tag that the Bees have put on their star striker.
A couple of days ago, Sky Sports reported that those at Brentford had scoffed at suggestions that the 27-year-old would be available for a fee of around £50m-£60m.
The publication claimed that the West London Club were planning on holding on to Toney until the end of the season, even though his current deal runs out in June of 2025.
It was asserted that it would take an astronomical fee of around £100m to lure the striker away from the Gtech Community Stadium in January.
Will Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea land Ivan Toney?
Frank has now insisted that Toney would be happy to stay and admitted that he is hopeful about hanging on the centre-forward.
The Brentford boss said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I hope Ivan Toney doesn’t leave in January, I want him to stay and Ivan is happy to stay. He is happy at the club. What happens in the future is impossible to guess — but I’d love to have Toney here forever!”.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think Toney is likely to be priced out of a January transfer by Brentford. He is more likely to leave next summer as the Bees would not have much choice but to reduce their demands since the striker would only have one year left on his contract.
