Ange Postecoglou has fired a warning to other Premier League sides by stating that Son Heung-min is only going to become more deadly in front of goal as he gets accustomed to playing as a number nine.

Many understandably questioned where Tottenham’s goals are going to come from this season after Harry Kane’s departure in the summer, but finding the back of the net has not been a problem at all for the Lilywhites so far this season.

That is largely down to Son excelling since being moved to the centre-forward role, with the South Korean having found the back of the net eight times so far this season.

Heung-min Son is filling Kane’s boots at Tottenham

Postecoglou admitted that it was next to impossible to find an option on the market to replace Kane’s 30 goals, which is why he needed a different solution.

The Tottenham head coach told The Independent: “It was quite obvious with Harry (Kane) leaving there was a couple of ways we could go about it.

“I don’t think you can replace Harry like-for-like. Another one of him doesn’t exist so for me to think let’s jump into the transfer market and bring in someone who can score 25 to 30 goals in the first year, I don’t think was realistic.”

Spurs fans will be hoping that Son can keep his goalscoring run going and potentially compete for the Golden Boot this season, and they will be encouraged by Postecoglou’s assertion that the Tottenham captain will continue to get better over the coming weeks and months.

The Australian said about the forward: “What I did know about Sonny having followed him for a long time is he is a great finisher, a smart footballer, has great movement and a real capacity for working, pressing, the stuff I love my strikers to do.

“So, I just thought he would be a really good fit for us and it wasn’t the only option I was looking at, but it was definitely the one I thought would be the best fit for where we are as a team and what we needed.

“Even with him, I think the more he plays in there, the better he will get in terms of really being a goal threat in every game. For us, it’s a massive asset to have.”

Son has been one of the best finishers in world football for a long time. What the South Korean lacks in terms of hold-up play and aerial prowess, he more than makes up for with his composure and deadliness in front of goal.
