Alasdair Gold has said that Alfie Dorrington has impressed him more than Ashley Phillips when he has watched the pair in action for Tottenham’s Under-21s this season.

There is an exciting crop of youngsters coming through the ranks of the Spurs academy at the moment, and there seems to be a lot of hope that many of the current Under-21 crop can become first-team prospects, particularly since Ange Postecoglou is not shy of giving opportunities to youngsters.

While two of Tottenham’s best prospects, Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett, are currently out on loan at Ipswich Town and Port Vale respectively, many others are also impressing for the North London club’s youth sides.

Dorrington is one of those, with the 18-year-old having played every minute of the club’s Premier League 2 so campaign far (Transfermarkt).

Dorrington could be Spurs’ next breakout starlet

Some reports over the last couple of weeks have indicated that the young defender has caught the eye of Posteoclgou and his coaching staff and that he could even be promoted to the first team if Eric Dier leaves in January (Football Transfers).

Gold has admitted that the teenager looks a cut above many of his Under-21 teammates.

When asked which Tottenham youngster has impressed him the most, the journalist said on his YouTube channel: “Alfie Dorrington for me. Dorrington has impressed me every time I’ve watched him. I’ll be honest, in the U21 games I’ve watched where he’s been alongside Ashley Phillips, he’s impressed me more than Phillips.

“Dorrington is a hell of a centre-back, and you’ll see him either fast-tracked with a bit of a loan or you’ll see him involved more from next season with the first team because he’s a terrific talent.”

Given that Tottenham are expected to sign at least one senior centre-back in January, I can see the club potentially deciding to loan out both Phillips and Dorrington to EFL sides for the second half of the season.
