Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend both expect Micky van de Ven to be out for a minimum of six weeks after the Dutchman went off in the first half against Chelsea holding his hamstring.

Tottenham fell to their first Premier League defeat of the season on Monday, with Chelsea emerging 4-1 winners against nine men following the red cards to Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie.

Romero will now miss the next three matches for Spurs after receiving a straight red while Udogie will be suspended for the clash against Wolves after receiving two yellows.

James Maddison also went off injured towards the end of the first half but Ange Posteocoglou hinted after the game that while the England international only sustained a ‘knock’, Van de Ven’s injury seemed ‘pretty significant’ (Football.London).

When will Micky Van de Ven return for Tottenham?

Townsend believes that losing the Dutchman for the long haul is a bigger blow for the Lilywhites than the 4-1 defeat, given how well the 22-year-old has played so far this season.

The pundit told talkSPORT (7th November 2023, 6:25 am): ”I mean, never mind the ramifications of the defeat last night, losing [Micky] Van de Ven, he’s been so good for them this season, and to lose him, it’s almost more devastating I think that the losing the three points on the night.

”He’s out, I would imagine looking at when your hammy goes like that, it goes with a real ping as it did, what we talking?” McCoist replied: ”Minimum six [weeks], if not eight.” Townsend then said: ”If not, ten, depending on the severity of it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Centre-back is the one area where we could not afford injuries and we will now somehow have to cope without both Van de Ven and Romero for three games.

I expect Postecolgou to partner Dier with Ben Davies at centre-back, which is certainly not ideal, given the quality of opposition we will come against in the next few weeks.
