Football Insider have revealed that Ange Postecoglou wants to bring a centre-back and a defensive midfielder through the door at Tottenham in January.

The report states that the Spurs boss wants two quality reinforcements to the squad in the winter to give his side the best chance of keeping pace with the likes of Manchester City.

Spurs want a centre-back and a defensive midfielder

A number six is alleged to be at the top of the Lilywhites’ agenda, particularly since they are set to lose Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr to the African Cup of Nations early next year.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could also be out of the door after coming close to leaving the club during the summer.

The outlet adds that strengthening at centre-back is also a priority for Postecoglou, who is keen to keep Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven on their toes by signing a top-quality player to compete with them for a starting berth.

While there is no doubt that Tottenham will sign a centre-back in January, a move for a defensive midfielder will depend on whether Hojbjerg leaves.

I do not think Postecoglou would mind hanging on to the Dane as a squad player until the end of the season if the 28-year-old is willing to stay. The Australian will likely also want to bring a winger through the door after the injury to Ivan Perisic.
