The Athletic have revealed that all 20 Premier League clubs will vote at the next shareholders’ meeting on a ban for loan moves involving players from associated clubs.

The measure has been stipulated to protect the integrity of the competition after several top-flight clubs expressed their concern about potential loan moves between associated clubs.

If there is a temporary ban on such transfers, then it would block deals such as Ruben Neves’ proposed loan switch from Al Hilal to Newcastle (both clubs are owned by Saudi PIF).

Should loans be allowed between associated clubs?

14 of the 20 Premier League clubs would have to vote in favour of the change for such a ban to be adopted immediately ahead of the January window.

The Athletic explain that the aim is to fast-track such a ban as a temporary measure for the January window so there is a little more time to arrive at a longer-term solution that prevents some clubs from taking advantage of the loophole.

Spurs Web Opinion

The rules as they stand are quite problematic as theoretically, Al-Hilal or another Saudi club could sign a number of Premier League stars in January and loan them all to Newcastle, thus allowing the Magpies to override FFP concerns. I fully expect the ban to be passed in the shareholder’s meeting.
