Paul Merson believes that Wolves will consign Tottenham to their second successive loss, insisting that Ange Postecoglou’s men will struggle to cope without several of their key players.
Tottenham are set to field a completely makeshift backline at the Molineux Stadium, with Micky van de Ven now expected to be out of action for at least two months with a hamstring injury (Telegraph) while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are suspended after picking up red cards against Chelsea.
To make matters worse, there are doubts about the fitness of James Maddison who came off injured in the first half on Monday.
Meanwhile, Richarlison now joins his fellow attackers, Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon, on the sidelines, after Spurs confirmed on Thursday that the Brazilian had undergone surgery to address his pelvic injury.
Will Spurs scrape a win over Wolves this weekend?
Merson has said that he cannot see Tottenham emerging with any points from West Midlands, given the injuries that they are now dealing with.
The pundit told Sportskeeda: “This one is a very interesting game. I’ll be shocked if Tottenham, with their injuries and suspensions, beat Wolves on Saturday.
“I was looking at Spurs’ situation and they have some bad injuries. Micky van de Ven is out and they’ve got Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie who are set to miss a couple of weeks due to suspension. James Maddison is going to be out too and Richarlison is set to undergo surgery.
“Ange Postecoglou will be fielding a makeshift backline and they are not going to be the same side that got off to a flying start to the season due to their injuries.”
Prediction: Wolverhampton 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs Web Opinion
The brilliant start we have made to the season means that a loss on Saturday will not be a complete disaster. Having said that, Postecoglou will not change the way he sets up the side and the players will believe they can impose themselves on Wolves and emerge with all three points.
