Jermaine Jenas believes that Ange Postecoglou might have to tweak his system against Wolves but backed his former side to come away with a result from the West Midlands this afternoon.

Spurs have a number of big absentees for today’s clash but perhaps the biggest worry is regarding their backline, with Micky van de Ven out with a long-term injury, and Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie suspended for the fixture.

That means that Tottenham’s backline might lack recovery pace but Postecoglou insisted in his pre-match press conference that he would resist the temptation to change his side’s approach of operating such a high defensive line (Football.London).

Jermaine Jenas thinks Spurs may have to switch tactics against Wolves

However, Jenas believes that the Australian might have to make systemic changes to cope with the loss of Romero and van de Ven.

He told TNT Sports: “I mean, it’s a tough game, given what’s just happened with Spurs and the depletion of some of their most important players.

“They lost both their centre halves; one to injury, one to suspension. Left-back’s gone as well, so there is going to be a complete rejig of that back four that’s been so important to Ange Postecoglou. He might have to change the system, somehow.”

The former Spurs midfielder does not expect Giovani Lo Celso to slot in for the injured James Maddison, backing Postecoglou to play one of Rodrigo Bentancur or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg instead.

He continued: “Maddison’s gone as well, so I’m expecting maybe someone like [Rodrigo] Bentancur to come into there or [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg, who was absolutely brilliant, but he might have to feature at centre hal.

“It’s really going to be a mismatch of a team that he’s going to put together up against an opponent that I think’s hurting as well.”

However, the pundit backed the Lilywhites to come up with a point from Molineux, although he admitted that he could not see them keeping a clean sheet.

The 40-year-old added: “I do think Spurs will get a result out of it. I think maybe a draw at the minute, given what has just happened, will still be a good result for Ange Postecoglou.

“I think Brennan Johnson will be teed up to get his first goal and then maybe Kulusevski, because it will be 2-2. I don’t see Spurs keeping many clean sheets in the next couple of weeks.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We certainly have the quality in attack to hurt Wolves but as Jenas mentions, we will be susceptible at the back, given the pace they have upfront. Making this a straight shoot-out by adapting an ultra-attacking approach might be our best chance of emerging with all three points.
