Fabrizio Romano has dismissed the speculation linking rumoured Tottenham target Trevor Chalobah with a move to Manchester United.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that signing a centre-back is a priority for Ange Postecoglou’s men in January, with GiveMeSport reporting on October 26 that Chalobah is one of four names on the top of the North London club’s wishlist.

The outlet claimed that Spurs view the 24-year-old as an ‘intriguing option’ since he can also step into midfield if required.

A few days ago, Football Insider also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Chalobah, with the report adding that the Lilywhites are now expected to throw their name into the hat after Chelsea decided to put him up for sale in January.

Man United will not challenge Spurs for Chalobah

It was reported recently by TEAMtalk that Man Utd were also ready to enter the race for the Blues academy graduate in January.

However, Romano has now said that he has not heard anything about the Red Devils’ interest in Chalobah. Interestingly, the journalist also did not mention Spurs as one of the contenders for the centre-back’s signature.

Romano told CaughtOffside: “One player who is expected to leave Chelsea, however, is Trevoh Chalobah, who was a target for both Bayern Munich and Nottingham Forest during the summer.

“He remains out of the first-team picture and so, as previously reported, I 100 per cent expect him to leave Stamford Bridge this January.

“Still, I’m not convinced by the recent rumours linking Chalobah with Manchester United – it seems to me like easy ‘guesswork’ because he is leaving Chelsea and Man United want to sign a centre-back. It seems like normal links, but I’m honestly not aware of anything concrete there, with no negotiations as of now.

“My understanding remains that United want a CB signing as a priority in 2024, with targets such as Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva, Edmond Tapsoba and Jean-Clair Todibo on their list when I spoke to sources recently. There has been no mention of Chalobah.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Now that it seems fairly clear that Chelsea have put Chalobah on the shop window, I would be surprised if Tottenham do not explore a move for the 24-year-old as he ticks quite a few boxes for Spurs.
