Alan Hutton believes that Eric Dier could do well at Bayern Munich, given the amount of possession the Bundesliga giants tend to have on a regular basis.
Dier undoubtedly has an important job to do for Tottenham over the coming weeks, with Micky van de Ven out with a hamstring injury and Cristian Romero serving a suspension following his red card against Chelsea.
However, whatever happens over the next month and a half, it is clear that this is going to be the centre-back’s final season at Tottenham, with the only question being whether he will leave in January or wait until next summer when he is a free agent.
The Daily Mirror reported last week that Daniel Levy plans to command a fee for Dier in January, and Football Insider subsequently reported a couple of days ago that the centre-back is open to leaving N17 after Bayern expressed an interest.
Should Eric Dier move to Bayern Munich?
Hutton believes that the move would suit all parties, insisting that the time has come for the England international to have a fresh star.
When asked about Bayern’s interest in Dier, the former Spurs right-back told Football Insider: “If I’m totally honest, I think Tottenham will want to bring someone else in. “With van de Ven and Romero there, who have you got there that’s going to come in?
“There’s a lot of players that have been there for a number of years now and it’s not quite worked out. Dier’s been there for nine years now and you would think his Tottenham career is now over considering the last few weeks.
“Would he fancy it? Probably. You’re going to a team there where you’re probably going to win more often than not.
“He’d have a lot of the ball, he’s good with his feet and he can play out from the back so it’s probably something that he’ll think about. Ultimately I think it’s time for him to move on to something different. Obviously, Ange Postecoglou will want to bring in his own signings.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be surprised if the Bayern rumours have any legs. While there is no doubt that a number of clubs would show interest in Dier in January, I suspect the centre-back will see out the rest of his contract and leave next summer.
