Le Figaro have dug into Hugo Lloris’ situation at Tottenham and talked to some people close to the Frenchman, with the outlet revealing that the goalkeeper is desperate for an exit in January.

It came as a surprise to many when Lloris ended up staying at Tottenham in the summer and the goalkeeper is evidently not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, with the Aussie coach naming Fraser Forster on the bench ahead of the former Spurs captain.

Le Figaro now explain that one of the reasons the experienced shot-stopper did not leave in the summer is that he expected Spurs to allow him to leave on a free transfer but Daniel Levy was looking to get a fee for him.

The report adds that the player was not pleased by that and made it clear that he is going to make a decision that is best for himself and his family rather than for the club’s hierarchy.

Hugo Lloris is itching to get back to playing football

Someone close to Lloris said: “His family comes before everything and he doesn’t want to go on an adventure or even worse, end up in a second-tier club.”

Another source said: “At the start of the year, he will look at all options because he is no longer in his club’s plans even if he could easily help them out. Either he will bounce back (at a new club) or he will finish his season at Tottenham and could even bow out at the end of this one.”

Le Figaro adds that Lloris is now ‘impatiently waiting’ for the January transfer window, hoping to find the exit route but it is explained that the situation of David de Gea does not fill him with much optimism.

Finally, the Tottenham man’s father is quoted as saying: “Hugo has always been transparent, and now, it’s backfiring on him. This situation is clearly affecting him.

“He wants to respect everything and gives his all during the week, but his misses the competition because he’s been in it all his life. It’s even more frustrating because he feels in great form.

“(Retirement) is not impossible. Hugo is a lad who plans, who anticipates a lot of things, but he has the mentality to bounce back in one way or another.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lloris is well within his full rights to run his contract down and leave as a free agent. In fact, Tottenham should terminate his deal if he wants to leave on a free transfer in January, given the fantastic service he has given to the club over the years.
