The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur ended up paying a ‘significantly higher’ fee for Richarlison than their London rivals were willing to pay for the Brazilian last year.

Everton have been hit with a 10-point deduction for breaching financial rules, with the Premier League announcing last week that the Toffees’ PSR calculation resulted in a loss of £124.5m, which exceeded the permitted threshold of £105m.

In the Independent Commission’s full written reasons (as published on the Premier League website), it is revealed that one of the reasons that the Toffees gave was that they received a lower fee for Richarlison than they were hoping to get.

The Merseyside club claimed that they were hoping to sell the forward for £80m but Spurs took advantage of their financial situation to sign him for just £60m.

Tottenham were willing to pay more than rivals

The Mail have now stated that, out of the £60m fee, £52.5m was a guaranteed portion, which makes Richarlison Tottenham’s second most expensive signing after Tanguy Ndombele.

Further, the outlet explains that the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea had also expressed an interest in the striker in the summer of 2022, but Spurs were willing to pay a higher fee than either of their London rivals.

Spurs Web Opinion

Everton had no leg to stand on if their argument is that Tottenham paid under market value for Richarlison. In fact, if anything, some felt that the club had overpaid for the forward.
