Darren Bent has expressed regret that he did not get to play with Mousa Dembele at Tottenham Hotspur.

Bent arrived at Tottenham from Charlton in the summer of 2007 after the Addicks’ relegation from the Premier League and he found it difficult to get game time in his first season at White Hart Lane, with Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermaine Defoe ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, the Englishman did lead the line for much of the 2008-09 season and finished as the club’s top scorer that year but Harry Redknapp decided to offload him to Sunderland at the end of the campaign.

Is Mousa Dembele one of the greatest ever?

Bent played with some outstanding players during his time at Spurs, including the likes of Ledley King, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, but he did not get to share a dressing room with Dembele, who arrived at the club in 2012.

The talkSPORT pundit admitted that he would loved to have played with the Belgian maestro. 

Bent said on Filthy Fellas: “Modric was the best player from day one.” He was then asked if he played alongside Dembele, to which he responded: “No, I didn’t, I missed him, but I wish I had played with him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Modric is undoubtedly a better all-round footballer than Dembele, in terms of pure talent, there were very few better than the Belgian, who was an absolute freak of nature, being so nimble on his feet despite being one of the strongest players in the Premier League.
