After undergoing scans on the ankle injury he picked up in the defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend, it has been revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur is facing around two-and-a-half months out of action.
Spurs fans had just gotten used to seeing Rodrigo Bentancur back on the pitch, after the midfielder was missing for eight months with an ACL injury picked up against Leicester City back in February.
The Uruguay star was starting for the first time in nine months when he lined up for Ange Postecoglou‘s side on Sunday for the visit of Aston Villa. Sadly, he lasted roughly 30 minutes before having to vacate the pitch.
A reckless challenge from Villa defender, Matty Cash, forced Bentancur off, to be replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
How long will Bentancur be out for?
A report from the Standard earlier today revealed the 25-year-old would have a scan on his ankle to assess the damage, and now, we know just how serious the issue is, and it’s not good news.
Journalist Sami Mokbel tweeted on the matter, writing: “Rodrigo Bentancur, as per reports in Uruguay, is expected to miss 2.5 months with an ankle injury suffered against Aston Villa on Sunday.”
Additionally, a report from Football.London claims those “scans have shown that the tackle resulted in the tearing of a ligament in [Bentancur’s] ankle.” It is thought Bentancur will now be out until February, at the earliest.
Spurs Web Opinion
Rodrigo Bentancur just cannot catch a break, and neither can Spurs. This injury crisis is getting out of hand now and means we will really have to battle through until January and then add to the squad as much as possible.
We wish Rodrigo a speedy recovery and hope he can come back stronger than ever. It’s especially frustrating as he had come back from such a big injury already and looked to be in good shape.
