BBC Sport have revealed that Qatar Sports Investment’s attempts to buy Tottenham felt thorough because Daniel Levy’s asking price was deemed ‘too high’.

It was reported by some outlets at the start of this calendar year that QSI, who own Paris Saint-Germain, held talks with Spurs over buying a 15 per cent stake in the North London club (The Athletic).

It was even reported by some outlets that QSI had discussed a potential offer of under £1 billion for a 25 per cent stake in the club (The Telegraph).

Amidst reported talks between QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Levy, it also emerged that Tottenham denied reports that they were looking for minority investment (Ben Jacobs).

Spurs deemed too expensive for QSI investment

BBC Sport have now explained that QSI did hold serious conversations with Spurs but the talks ‘got nowhere’ as the price for the Premier League side was deemed ‘too high’.

The report does not give any detail about how much Tottenham demanded or how much stake in the Lilywhites the consortium wanted.

It is explained that QSI are still actively looking to invest in the English top flight and are committed to selling a small part of PSG.

Spurs Web Opinion

There will likely be a lot of interest in Tottenham over the next couple of years, given the revenue-earning potential of the stadium. Levy and ENIC have no reason to accept a low fee, especially given the figures involved in the Chelsea takeover and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment in Man Utd.
