Union Saint Gillois CEO Philippe Bormans has warned the likes of Tottenham that the Belgian club have no intention of selling Koki Machida.

Tottenham’s interest in Machida came to light last week when 90 min reported that the centre-back’s solid displays in Belgium had caught the eye of the North London club.

The outlet explained that Ange Postecoglou knows the 26-year-old from his time in the J-League and that the player is seen as a very good fit for the Australian system.

It was subsequently reported a couple of days ago by Voetbal Nieuws (via Sport Witness) that Spurs are expected to scout the Japan international over the coming weeks.

It was explained that SG Union are set to take on Liverpool in a Europa League clash on December 16 and that fixture might be of particular interest to Spurs.

Koki Machida will not be allowed to leave SG Union

However, Bormans has now insisted that the Jupiler Pro League outfit intend to hold on to the Japanese defender until next summer.

When asked about the speculation over Machida’s future, he told De Zevende Dag: “Every year, we have been reasonably successful in keeping everyone together in the winter. We’re going to try that again now.

“There is a lot of interest, but we will try to hold it off until after the season. We first want to achieve something together.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is not much concrete speculation to suggest that Machida is one of the names at the top of Postecoglou’s wishlist for January. The 26-year-old is someone the club might consider for next summer if he keeps developing the way he is at SG Union.
