Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has praised Tottenham Hotspur loanee Djed Spence for his commitment in training following his return from injury.

Spence joined the Championship side on loan for the season earlier in the summer, along with fellow Spur Joe Rodon. While the latter has gone on to establish himself as a regular starter in Farke’s side, Spence has made just one appearance off the bench until now (Transfermarkt).

Following a disappointing first season in N17, Spence would have been hoping to rediscover his form at the Elland Road outfit. However, a ligament problem that he suffered back in September has kept him from featuring in a first-team fixture ever since.

Leeds manager Farke had revealed to Football.London a month in late October that Spence was in the final stages of his recovery and was expected to be back in action soon. Spence made the bench for the club’s 3-1 win over Swansea City and was again an unused sub for the 3-2 victory at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

He said: “Djed is also in the last stages of his rehab,” said Farke. “I hope both of them, Stuart [Dallas] and Djed can return back to team training pretty soon and then I guess Djed was also out for about eight weeks, so it’s not like the first day back in team training he’ll be available for the game, he also needs a bit of training, but I hope that’s pretty soon, in the next days.

Farke full of praise over Spence’s attitude

Fake said: Yorkshire Evening Post:”It was no gift, Djed since 11 or 12 days in training you could see him growing from training session to training session. After such a long injury he can’t be there with 100 per cent but we got the feeling he deserved already to be in the squad.”

“He was quite on it in training, I was quite impressed. We decided to have him as an option. If he works that hard, especially on his fitness level, each and every day to gain more and more rhythm he has good chances in the upcoming weeks to be involved with game time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is good news that Spence is fit and can finally start playing regularly for Leeds. Judging by how the summer went, it appears as though Ange Postecoglou does not think the young Englishman would suit his system; Spence might be putting himself in the shop window for the remainder of the season.

If Spence performs well and his asking price increases, that bodes very well for us. If Leeds get promoted back to the top-flight and Spence has a solid end to the campaign, hopefully, he can get the move he needs to get his career back on track.
