Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for his side after watching them comfortably beat Newcastle United 4-1 in North London earlier this evening.
Spurs headed into the match looking to end a horrible run of results which had seen them arrive into the fixture looking to end their frustrating run of form, having dropped a league-high 16 points from winning positions this season, with 14 of those coming since the start of November.
After Tottenham took the lead through Destiny Udogie, they would be forgiven for being slightly nervous given the recent trend of going ahead in fixtures only to end up without three points, however, it was not the case when a brace from Richarlison and a penalty by Heung-min Son rounded off the rout after he was brought down in the box.
Postecoglou pleased with attacking threat
Postecoglou highlighted the improvement of his players in the attacking third of the pitch in comparison to their lack of kiler instinct during the 2-1 loss to West Ham United in midweek.
He told Sky Sports: “I can’t fault the lads. They put in a massive effort today. We were brighter in the front third, I thought Sonny [Son Heung-min] was excellent and that sort of thing feeds off to the other guys.
“You rely on your leaders to take initiative; we could have had more goals but our attacking play was as good as it has been for a while. We are getting players back; you can see Newcastle are running on fumes. We’ve gone through that and hopefully we are coming out the other side.
“Both boxes we were a lot better; having [Cristian] Romero back helped with that. We have had to battle away and come January we’ll get players back. The Premier League is unrelenting; the other teams aren’t going to feel sorry for you.”

Despite the Spurs faithful being fully behind Postecoglou, this was a much needed win for his side after recently losing their grip on the top four and looking concerningly short of ideas when it came to putting the ball in the next.
