Journalist Dean Jones is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will not entertain any offers for Giovani Lo Celso in January.
Lo Celso missed a significant chunk of the season due to injury but the Argentine has had a pivotal role to play over the last month, in light of the injuries to the likes of James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur.
The 27-year-old has certainly taken his opportunities, having found the back of the net in two of his last three Premier League starts.
However, there continues to be speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Barcelona, with The Standard reporting at the start of December that the Catalan club are unwilling to give up on the player.
The outlook explains that while the former Real Betis man is flattered about Barca’s interest, he will demand to leave Spurs in January since he is now getting game time.
No chance of a Lo Celso exit from Spurs in January
Jones believes that Lo Celso will continue playing a pivotal role for Ange Postecoglou over the coming months, even if he does not start matches.
The journalist suggested that the Argentina international is too valuable as a squad player for Tottenham to consider a January loan or sale.
When asked about the speculation over Lo Celso’s future, Jones told GiveMeSport: “[As a squad player], you have to consider what success is. To be part of a team like Tottenham right now, if you’re getting good game time, I think it’s enough.
“Even if you’re coming into a game as a sub, you’re playing as much of the game as the starter has, anyway. Games are extending towards 100 minutes and beyond.
“So, if you’re coming on at half-time, you’re getting longer than the guy who started the match in the first place. This becomes part of being a squad player, which Lo Celso has been.
“He’s going to get more opportunities. I think he’s going to be an important player, and I think the most telling factor of all here is that Tottenham are going to want to hold on to him for now, and there’s no chance of him leaving.”

With Maddison potentially not expected to be back until February, Lo Celso will get plenty of game time over the next month and a half. Given what Postecoglou has said about the Argentine over recent weeks, it is clear that the Aussie coach values the midfielder quite highly.
