According to the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are one of three clubs at the front of the queue to sign Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips in January.
The report primarily covers Juventus’ interest in Phillips and says that the midfielder is on the lookout for a new club since Pep Guardiola no longer counts on him.
It is asserted that the Old Lady’s main competition for the player’s signature will come from Spurs and two other unnamed Premier League sides, who are said to be ‘in the front row’ for the England international.
Spurs, Juventus and two PL clubs all want Phillips
The outlet explains that while Phillips’ agent is flirting with the Bianconeri, the former Leeds man has ‘no shortage of alternatives’ at home.
The publication adds that Juve are hopeful that Man City might be hesitant to offload the 27-year-old to a domestic rival, thus giving them an advantage over other suitors.
This report comes just a few days after Football Insider reported that Spurs and Newcastle face ‘strong competition’ from Massimiliano Allegri’s men for Phillips’ signature.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs have a huge disadvantage compared to Newcastle and Juve as Phillips’ number one priority would be regular game time ahead of next summer’s European championship.
I do not think the 27-year-old will want to compete with the likes of Bissouma, Sarr and Bentacnur for a place in Postecoglou’s starting eleven.
