Destiny Udogie signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur this week, and Ange Postecoglou has commented on how happy he is to see the youngster commit his future to the club.
After signing for the Lilywhites last summer, Destiny Udogie remained with his former side Udinese for a season-long loan spell. The extra time in Italy was a success, with the left-back registering three goals and four assists in Serie A in the 2022/23 campaign (Transfermarkt).
Since arriving in North London for real this summer, Udogie has been one of the brightest sparks in Ange Postecoglou‘s new-look Spurs side.
Solid displays at the back and adventurous play going forward have caught the eye, with Udogie attracting praise from fans and pundits alike all season. The 21-year-old already has one goal and two assists for Spurs in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
Postecoglou wants to keep core Spurs stars together
Tottenham confirmed this week that the youngster had put pen to paper on a new contract, keeping him in N17 until 2030. Speaking to the press (via Football.London), Postecoglou revealed his delight at the news.
He said: “Really pleased with Destiny signing obviously. This is the first phase of us trying to build something and the core of the group is fairly young and new to the Premier League. Destiny committing to us is an endorsement of what he sees as a good place for his future.
“It’s his first year in the Premier League, he’s adapting to a new role. He understands that, he’s a willing worker in trying to improve himself but he’s also made an impact, which is the big thing for us. Great to have him commit to the club long-term.
“It’s something we want to continue to build on and hopefully keep the core of this group together for the coming years to build something special.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This is really exciting to hear how Postecoglou regards the Udogie extension not just as one player committing their future, but as the first step in really putting together the spine of this side for years to come.
