Pat Nevin is in disbelief at the kind of performances that Tottenham’s full-backs, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, are delivering consistently.
Both Porro and Udogie have had to get used to the inverted full-back role in Ange Postecoglou’s system this season, with both players having been accustomed to playing as wing-backs over the last few years.
The Spaniard and the Italian are getting increasingly comfortable in their roles with each passing game and have become quite adept in receiving the ball in the middle of the park and helping progress the team up the pitch.
Both players made a big impact against Newcastle on Sunday, with Udogie finding himself in the box to turn home Son Heung-min’s low cross for Tottenham’s opener while Porro provided the assist for the home side’s third goal with a perfectly weighted ball over the top to Richarlison.

Udogie and Porro are impressing people at Spurs
Nevin admitted that he has never seen two full-backs who play like the Spurs pair are currently doing.
The former Chelsea winger told Off The Ball: “It’s getting ridiculous, you look at Udogie and he comes up against good players. We know how good someone like Anthony Gordon has been this season, but he didn’t get a sniff and Porro has really come on.
“Those two, he fact they’ve been brilliant defensively and they’re also midfielders and they’re also in the box, that one Udogie finished, what is he doing there? That’s a centre-forward’s position.”

It seems a lifetime ago that Gary Neville criticised Postecoglou for trying to copy Guardiola, opining that Porro and Udogie do not have the quality to play centrally.
The Australian clearly felt that the pair are technically good enough to play as inverted full-backs and his judgement has proven to be spot on.
