Micah Richards is convinced that rumoured Tottenham target, Jarrad Branthwaite, will evolve into one of the best defenders in the Premier League in the years to come.
While Branthwaite excelled on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season, he was a relative unknown to Premier League fans until this season.
The 21-year-old is quickly emerging as one of the best young centre-backs in England, having established himself as a fixture in Sean Dyche’s backline, and he is thought to have caught the attention of Tottenham.
Multiple outlets have reported over the last week that the youngster has emerged as one of Spurs’ top targets for January but Everton are expected to resist any offers for the player next month (Sky Sports).
Football Transfers even reported on Monday that amidst interest from Tottenham, Everton have slapped a £75m price tag on the centre-back as they expect him to become an England regular in the future.
Richards is convinced Branthwaite will be huge star
It appears as if Richards believes that it would be worth it for a club to break the bank for Branthwaite, with the former Manchester City spot believing that the youngster will inevitably reach the very top.
The pundit said on The Rest is Football: “Young Branthwaite at the back was amazing. He is going to the very top, he is going to the very top. His decision-making, he reads the game well, he is quick enough, he makes the right decisions.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Branthwaite certainly has the attributes to evolve into a top-class centre-back, there is no way Tottenham would shatter their transfer record to sign a player who is yet to even have a full season of Premier League football under his belt.
