Calciomercato have revealed that Juventus have re-started contacts with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s agent regarding a January switch to Turin.
Hojbjerg, who was primarily restricted to a few cameos off the bench at the start of the season, has been getting more regular game time over the last month and a half due to the injuries that Tottenham have had in the middle of the park.
Various sources (including Football.London’s Alasdair Gold) have suggested over recent weeks that Spurs will not entertain offers for the Dane in January, given Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury and the fact that Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr will be unavailable during AFCON.
Juve continue to try for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
However, CalcioMercato have now said Hojbjerg still remains ‘a live option more than ever’ for Juve, with the Serie A club’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli said to be a big fan of the player.
The report states that Massimiliano Allegri also appreciates the Spurs star’s ‘experience and personality’ and that the Italian coach views the 28-year-old as ‘perfect’ for his system.
The outlet adds over recent days that ‘new contacts’ have taken place between the Bianconeri and Hojbjerg’s agent, with the club exploring the option of signing him on loan with an option to buy.
It is explained that Spurs are not open to a sale at the moment as they consider him an ‘important player’ and would only let in leave if they receive an offer ‘consistent with the value he has demonstrated over the years’.
However, Giuntoli ‘does not intend to let go’ and continues to be locked in talks with the former Southampton man’s agent.
The publication says that the one thing that could work in Juve’s favour is the fact that Hojbjerg looks favourably at the idea of moving to the Allianz Stadium.
Spurs Web Opinion
Now that it has emerged this week that Conor Gallagher could be put on the shop window by Chelsea, Tottenham may perhaps be open to offloading Hojbjerg in order to make space for the England international.
However, it would still be a massive risk to let the 28-year-old leave, given that Maddison and Bentancur look unlikely to return until February while Bissouma and Sarr would be unavailable during AFCON.
