Todofichajes have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now in ‘very advanced negotiations’ with Feyenoord over a deal for Santiago Gimenez.
Gimenez hit the limelight last season, with the striker being particularly prolific in the second half of the 2022-23 and he continued in the same vein so far this campaign, with 20 goals across all competitions so far.
In fact, the Mexican has now created an Eredivisie record by scoring the most league goals in a calendar year in the competition’s history, overtaking Luiz Suraez’s record of 30 goals for Ajax back in 2009 (AS).
The centre-forward has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs recently, with The Daily Mirror even reporting last month that the Lilywhites are convinced that the Feyenoord star is the ideal option to fill Harry Kane’s shoes.
Spurs talks are well underway for Santiago Gimenez
Todofichajes have now gone one step further and asserted that negotiations between Tottenham and the Dutch club for Gimenez are now at a ‘very advanced’ stage.
The report states that Spurs have moved ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in the race for the 22-year-old, with Ange Postecoglou’s men allegedly willing to pay €50m (£42.9m) including add-ons for the player.
In fact, the outlet adds that Atletico are ready to call off their pursuit of Gimenez and assess other options after learning about Tottenham’s advances for the striker.
Spurs Web Opinion
I find this report quite hard to believe as I believe that Postecoglou would prefer to sign a versatile forward than a traditional number nine in January. Having said that, Spurs evidently rate Gimenez highly and could feel that the deal is too good to pass up if he becomes available.
