Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham’s relationship with Feyenoord is quite strained at the moment, which is why the Lilywhites might find it quite difficult to strike a deal for Santiago Gimenez.

Gimenez has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the last 18 months and the Mexican even recently broke the Eredivisie record held by Luis Suarez for the most goals in a calendar year (AS).

Over the last two months, Spurs Web has relayed several reports backing Tottenham to push ahead with a move for the 22-year-old in January.

This includes an update by The Daily Mirror last month, which claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s men are convinced that he is the right man to fill Harry Kane’s shoes after extensive scouting.

Just a few days ago, Todofichajes even asserted that Tottenham are now in ‘very advanced negotiations’ with Feyenoord over a deal for the striker. The outlet claimed that Spurs had moved ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in the race for the prolific forward.

Tottenham have a problem in Gimenez pursuit

Romano has now confirmed that the North London club do hold a keen interest in Gimenez, revealing that it would take a bid of around €45m (£38.6m) to sign the player.

However, he explained that Spurs do not have a good relationship with Feyenoord as there is some bad blood between the clubs after the Premier League side’s attempt to poach Arne Slot from De Kuip last summer.

Romano told The Debrief about Gimenez’s future: “For January a really interesting proposal is needed. I think it could be around €45 guaranteed package to Feyenoord, I’m not sure it will be easy at the moment.

“He is for sure a player monitored by Tottenham because they are following the Dutch League with big interest after they wanted Arne Slot last summer.

“The relationship with Tottenham and Feyenoord after what happened with Arne Slot last summer has some problems, some small issues, nothing big and serious, but that is also a point to consider.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be quite surprised if Tottenham made an approach for Gimenez in January. I suspect the club view him as a target for next summer.

However, if Spurs feel that they might miss out on the 22-year-old by waiting for six more months, perhaps they could consider a shock move for the Mexican next month.
