90min have claimed that Benfica are now hopeful of beating Tottenham and several other Premier League sides to the signing of Argentine starlet Gianluca Prestianni.
Tottenham are evidently keeping close tabs on the best young talent emerging from Argentina, with the North London club securing the services of Alejo Veliz in the summer.
According to 90 min, the Lilywhites are now plotting a move for another emerging talent from the South American country, having kept close tabs on Prestianni.
Despite being just 17 years of age, the winger, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, has made 23 appearances times in the country’s Primera Division for Velez Sarsfield and is turning a lot of heads.
Benfica in the driving seat to sign Prestianni
Spurs are not the only Premier League eyeing the youngster, with 90 min revealing that he is also being watched closely by Manchester City, Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham and Wolves.
However, it is Benfica who are favourites to land Prestianni, with the Portuguese club said to be ‘cautiously optimistic’ of concluding the deal.
The report states that the teenager has a £10m release clause written into his contract, which Benfica are expected to activate, but the publication adds that a move to the Estadio da Luz is not yet a done deal for the player.
Spurs Web Opinion
Young South American players generally see Portugal as a more favourable gateway to enter European football, owing to the similarity in culture and style of football.
Prestianni’s entourage might perhaps have doubts over a Premier League switch, given that the 17-year-old has not even had a full season of football under his belt in the Argentine top flight.
