According to Il Mattino (as relayed by The Sun), Napoli are considering a move for Tottenham centre-back Eric Dier in next month’s transfer window.
Back in November, several Italian outlets stated that Dier was AS Roma’s top centre-back target for January, with Jose Mourinho alleged to be keen on reuniting with the Tottenham man (TMW).
However, over the last week or so, multiple publications (AS Roma Live and Gazzetta dello Sport) have said that Roma’s interest in the Spurs star has cooled a little, with the Giallorossi also studying other options.

Roma now face competition for Eric Dier
Il Mattino have now suggested that Napoli could battle Mourinho’s men for Dier’s signature when the January transfer window opens.
It is explained that the reigning Serie A champions are keen on strengthening at centre-back and are keeping a close eye on the 29-year-old, given his current predicament at Tottenham.
The report reveals that Dier is not the only Premier League defender that Napoli are looking at, with Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Wolves’ Max Kilman also said to be on their radar.

English centre-backs have had plenty of success in Serie A over recent years and Dier might look at the resurgence of Chris Smalling at Roma and decide that a switch to Italy might be what he needs.
However, given that the Tottenham man would be available for free in six months, it remains to be seen if either Roma or Napoli would want to pay a fee for him in January.
