Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has offered Tottenham a big boost in their rumoured pursuit of Piero Hincapie, revealing that the centre-back is ready to leave Bayer Leverkusen in January.
Hincapie had emerged as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga over the last two years but he has fallen behind in Xavi Alonso’s pecking order this season, with the Spanish coach preferring a centre-back pairing of Edomond Tapsoba and Odilon Kossounou.
We relayed a report from The Daily Mirror last month, which claimed that Tottenham are continuing to keep an eye on the Ecuadorian ahead of the January transfer window.
This was also backed up by a recent report in TEAMtalk, with the outlet suggesting that Spurs could battle Newcastle and Liverpool for the 21-year-old’s signature in January.
Hincapie is not pleased with Leverkusen situation
Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that Hincapie is not pleased with his lack of game time at the Bay Arena and is open to seeking a new challenge next month.
The journalist adds that there have been many inquiries for the centre-back, naming Liverpool as one of those interested, but he adds that no offers have been made for the player so far.
Plettenberg explains that the Bundesliga side are keen to hold on to Hincapie as both Tapsoba and Kossounou will be unavailable during the African Cup of Nations.
Piero #Hincapie, open for a new challenge in winter as he wants to play regularly. He’s not happy as a substitute.
But: Leverkusen appreciates him & wants to keep him as Tapsoba & Kossounou will join the African Cup.

Spurs Web Opinion
Bayer Leverkusen are unlikely to do anything that threatens to derail their title challenge, which is why I would be extremely surprised if they let Hincapie go in January. I think the 21-year-old would be a more realistic target for Spurs next summer.
