Despite what Ange Postecoglou said about Yves Bissouma publicly following his red card against Nottingham Forest, Alasdair Gold predicts that the Tottenham head coach might be quite displeased privately about the midfielder’s antics.
With Spurs cruising to a 2-0 win at the City Ground, Bissouma had a moment of madness in the 70th minute as he lost the ball and produced a dangerous lunge at Ryan Yates in a desperate attempt to win it back.
The referee initially handed the Mali international a yellow card, only to change it to a red after re-watching the tackle on the touchline monitor.
Since this is the midfielder’s second red card of the campaign, he will be suspended for four matches instead of three, and with the 27-year-old expected to travel to the AFCON next month, he may not feature in another Premier League game until February (The Athletic).
Postecoglou publicly defended Bissouma, insisting that the tackle was not malicious and that the midfielder does not have a discipline problem (Football.London).
However, Gold believes that the 58-year-old would have been quite peeved with what the former Brighton man did.
The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “I’m sure he’s unhappy with Bissouma privately, he must be. The guy is such a talented player and he’s missed so much football for Spurs and he’s going to have by the time he returns in February.
“Especially because he sees him as someone who is so integral in this number six role in his squad. In his words, ‘it is what it is’, but I don’t know whether it should be what it is, I think they should be doing better myself.”

Bissouma is certainly not a dirty player and has not had problems with his discipline like Romero has. The 27-year-old just panicked momentarily after losing the ball and I am sure Postecoglou will address the situation and ensure that the midfielder learns from his mistake.
